Have you ever wondered how to make a Martini Cocktail? There’s no need to head to the bar – it’s very easy to make this simple drink at home!
Martini Drink
Martinis are one of those drinks that every cocktail-lover knows how to make, if only because we all have our own variations! And we sure do have the funniest fights over them, too!
It’s one of food’s greatest debates, I think, next to the best regional pizza or which country has the best beer. Google “martini,” and you’re bound to get a thousand blog posts all about it.
Me? I say that all martini recipes are equally valid because they all get us what we want – a little bit of booze with our meal. 😉
Martinis are one of the simplest cocktails to make, regardless of how you like them. So today, I’ll be showing you my recipe for a martini if you’ve ever wondered how to make a martini yourself.
This is somewhat close to a classic martini … somewhat. (Don’t wag your finger at me in the comments!!)
We’re using gin instead of vodka – and dry vermouth. The ratio’s slightly different from a classic martini, and I added orange bitters for flavor. I think this is as good as martinis get!
How to Make a Martini: Ingredients & Equipment
To make this recipe for a martini, you will need … some math knowledge! Just kidding, but don’t be discouraged when we talk about ratios. It just means “part,” so the 2:1 ratio means 2 parts of something to 1 part of another. It’s a little like cooking!
Ingredients
- Gin: The first part of a classic martini! My favorite recipe involves a 2:1 gin-to-vermouth ratio, though I’ve heard the “classic” requires 5:1, and there’s a ton of different opinions about it on the internet. Personally, I just think it tastes best with the 2:1!!
- Dry vermouth: The other part of a classic martini. Again, I tend to use a 2:1 gin-to-vermouth ratio! Vermouth, by the way, is a kind of wine, usually flavored with various flowers, spices, etc. It provides the floral taste of the martini.
- Orange bitters: Okay, okay…some martini fans might get mad at me for this one! But I love a martini with a sort of citrusy taste. Orange bitters, for those who might be new to drinks, aren’t bitter at all! It’s just another cocktail ingredient, this time for added tartness.
- Ice: To chill the mixing jar/shaker before making the drink.
- Olives: Optional for garnishing the drink. (Though some might say it’s not optional at all, and olives make the martini! Hey, to each their own!!)
Note: You can add olive juice to this to make it a “dirty” martini! 😍
Equipment
- Mixing jar or shaker: For combining your martini together!
- Jigger: For measuring.
- Cocktail Mixing spoon: For mixing your drink.
- Glass: For serving.
Martini Cocktail: FAQs
Less than 5 minutes. All you have to do is mix the ingredients together!
Just one! You’ll need to make a few batches if you want to serve everyone at a party!!
Believe it or not, you won’t be shaking this drink. You know that old James Bond quote, “Shaken, not stirred”…? Well, here you’re stirring!! You can use a shaker for convenience but you don’t want to shake it all together. If you’re new to making drinks, trust me when I say this part makes a difference.
Recipe Tips
- If you prefer, you can add an ounce of olive juice to make it a dirty martini cocktail.
- To keep your drink colder, longer, chill the glasses for about 30 minutes before use. Remember, this is served without ice, but is stirred with ice beforehand. This means the drink will be cold when poured, but won’t stay that way.
- Use quality products to get the best martini you’ve ever had.
