For this Birthday Cake Popcorn Mix recipe, you will need …
Ingredients
- popcorn kernels – unflavored ones are the best here, or only LIGHTLY salted/sweetened.
- yellow cake mix and Wilton vanilla-flavored candy melts – combined make the โbirthday cakeโ flavor for your snack. Youโll melt it all together and pour it over the popcorn!
- sprinkles, M&Ms, birthday cake Oreos – assorted goodies for your birthday cake popcorn mix to make it that much sweeter! For the Oreos, you can use either the chocolate birthday cake or the golden birthday cake ones, whichever you find or prefer.
Equipment
- wax paper, baking sheets – youโll place your popcorn here while you pour melted candy on it and mix it with your sweets.
How to make Birthday Cake Flavored Popcorn
First, prep the popcorn. Pop the popcorn kernels in an air popper or by using your favorite method. Pick out any unpopped kernels. Place the popcorn in a large bowl (if it isn’t already).
Second, add your sweets. Place wax paper on two baking sheets and set it aside. Melt the Wilton candy melts according to package directions. Stir the dry cake mix into the melted candy until itโs all thoroughly combined. Working quickly, pour the candy over the popcorn and mix well. Add M&M’s and Oreo cookies and mix well once more.
Finally, add your sprinkles, wait a bit, and eat! Divide the popcorn mixture between the two baking sheets, spreading it out into a single layer and separating the pieces (it’s okay if they touch a bit). Immediately shake sprinkles over the top. Allow the popcorn to set until the candy melts harden. If necessary, break the popcorn into pieces before serving.
